Children experiencing abuse or neglect often face uncertainty, difficult transitions, and decisions being made around them. CASA volunteers provide something every child deserves: a caring, consistent adult who listens, advocates, and helps ensure their voice is heard.

The Power of Showing Up

When a child enters the child welfare system, many adults become involved in their case.

A CASA volunteer provides something different: consistency.

CASA volunteers are trained community members appointed by a judge to advocate for the best interests of children experiencing abuse or neglect. By building relationships, gathering information, and ensuring a child’s needs remain at the center of important decisions, CASA volunteers help children feel seen, heard, and supported.

The CASA volunteer took the time to get to know him, learning about the things he enjoyed, the experiences that mattered to him, and the people he cared about. Through regular visits and a consistent presence, the CASA volunteer became someone Oliver could count on during a period of constant change.

For a child facing so much uncertainty, having one caring adult who showed up consistently made a meaningful difference.

His sister was an important connection to family, and those belongings were reminders of a life that had suddenly changed.

His CASA volunteer listened. After learning about Riley’s concerns, the volunteer advocated on his behalf. As a result, Riley was able to reconnect with his sister and retrieve his belongings.

The experience reminded Riley that his voice mattered and that someone was listening.

After the hearing, the CASA volunteer sat down with Charlie and the siblings to talk through what had happened, answer questions, and help them process the experience. Later, they shared a meal together and continued the conversation in a more comfortable environment.

By the end of the day, the siblings shared that they felt better.

The hearing had not been easy. But they didn’t have to navigate it alone.

Could I be a CASA Volunteer?

Do I need a background in social work or law?
No. CASA volunteers come from all walks of life. Training and ongoing support are provided.

How much time does it take?
Most CASA volunteers dedicate approximately 10-15 hours per month advocating for a child.

Will I receive training?
Yes. Volunteers complete training before being assigned a case and continue receiving support throughout their volunteer journey.

What does a CASA volunteer actually do?
CASA volunteers advocate for a child’s best interests by building relationships, gathering information, and ensuring the child’s voice is heard throughout the court process.
